What I did today? - musicalmemoriesuk - 01-20-2025 So today started off with experimenting with some different splits across the keyboard. The success of this depends on where you assign the 3 rd split, the actual key your playing in. An adopting a different style of playing. Secondly I did some further experimenting with the master effects assigning the master track parameter to upper1 previously I haven’t done this. I also worked a bit more on the reverb effects As in the above diagram which helps position your instruments / sounds in the soundscape your trying to create. It also simulates the mic placement where it / they would be in relation to the instruments. So now we know if we want a sound up front to have a completely dry sound. More of a central positioning a small space with a long Pre delay and short reverb time. From the back / rear short pre delay and long reverb time But as you see in the diagram the use of eq can change the perception of where the sound is placed. As we are using master fx and send levels (similar to a bus and sends in a daw) I always set these to wet, and then adjust the wet / dry with the fx sends. Ie a send with a value of 63 is equal to 50% dry and 50% wet. It’s best to start here and adjust according to where you want the sound to be positioned. RE: What I did today? - musicalmemoriesuk - 01-20-2025 Ive also been working more with the Ambience and eq settings for the drum tracks. RE: What I did today? - musicalmemoriesuk - 01-21-2025 So this morning began scanning through the reverb presets on my Korg Pa700. I found one called Early Reflections. As we know early reflections are used in reverb to simulate the acoustics , the furniture basically anything sound bounces off before reaching our ears. To me this is the ambience of a space. So I thought what about using this instead of reverb. Early Reflections will be quite like your Dual Reverb..? I have been using Reverb Room for a long time for instruments that contain bass, such as drums. I made the same settings as shown on your Early Reflections; reducing bass (from 200Hz and below) and increasing treble. This can give almost the same effect as genuine ambience, but does not position the drum kit as precisely. It's actually quite possible that the best solution for drums is a combination of Early Reflections (with very low gain) along with genuine ambience added with the Drum Editor. I'll be testing this out soon. RE: What I did today? - musicalmemoriesuk - 01-21-2025 I’ve read that if you cut both the low and high pre eq it’s supposed to sound more natural Plus this method doesn’t seem to make the sound too washed out like reverb can / does. Yes the result is pretty much the same as the dual reverb. Im guessing the higher the time value for the early reflections the more furnished or objects there would be for the sound reaches our ears, and the pre delay higher the pre delay value the further the sound is pushed back and thus giving the impression of a larger space. Genos 2 uses a similar setup, but the problem there is that the user has to adjust the level every time a style is selected; it can't be saved for each style. And we've heard from demos that most users are incompetent to make this adjustment... RE: What I did today? - musicalmemoriesuk - 01-21-2025 So here is what I’ve tested Ive actually set the send level to 127 for the early reflections, but as you will see I also cut both the high and low pre eq. Ive tried the different presets for the type parameter. I also didn’t know you could also change the pre leq to low-mid and pre heq to mid-high. At the moment Im just experimenting by adjusting the parameters. RE: What I did today? - musicalmemoriesuk - 01-21-2025 I think having had a play with some of the parameters works pretty well. Much better than using other reverb presets. It definitely enhances the sound while not feeling flat, I did do some a b testing with and without the effects from a personal point of view sounds much better. Just how this will work with styles I will see. By the way: I minimize the bass, and allow a certain amount of effect on the treble to achieve more airiness.
