The Diatonic Button Accordion
This topic was put up originally in the Tierce-de-Picardie Forum by Dennis Oyston, but having introduced you to the two girls playing Steirische Harmonika (which is a Diatonic Button Accordion), I thought it would be a good idea for you to read about how this instrument works. I think I would find it very difficult to get my head around the fact that you get different notes when you PUSH or PULL the bellows .. like what happens when playing a mouth organ. But with the button accordion they have different buttons for the same note depending on whether you're 'pushing' or 'pulling'. You just need to concentrate on which way the bellows are going when you're playing!
